I used to be a huge feedback soon. There is an iSCSI configuration which works a bit differently than what I use to experiment with Openfiler. FreeNAS 8 for iSCSI and connect to ESX (i) . My HP Proliant(HP-PL) turned up today and i was going to stick FreeNAS on it but it's an absolute nightmare (noob talking). Repeat after me: It would be a learning experience. The book wastes no time and gets to the point fast! I would really take a look at openfiler (openfiler.com) before looking at freenas for integration in an esx cluster. You will learn how to configure and administer a FreeNAS server in a variety of networking scenarios. Not that that's a bad thing, of course. I picked up Learning FreeNAS book about 6 days ago and I could not put it down! This book will show you how to work with FreeNAS and set it up for your needs. I'm using an old computer as a NAS using FreeNAS, and after some tweaking everything is dandy.
